scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Reflections'/>
Reach out and touch someone.

In Sunday's mass, the Gospel reading was Mark 1: 40-45. This was the story of a leper who asked Jesus to heal him of his leprosy. Jesus touched the man and healed his leprosy, but he told the man not to tell anyone about that miracle. The man then proceeded to tell everyone that Jesus healed him, so Jesus had to hide, for he knew that many people would flock to him for help.

In Father John's homily, he spoke about what it meant to be a "leper." He explained that "leprosy" is now an actual medical disease; however, he explained that back in Jesus' time, if a person had one single blemish on his/her skin, then that person would be considered a leper. As I listened to Father John's homily, I realized that I would be considered a leper thanks to my eczema. If that happened, that would absolutely suck, for people will see me as an outcast, and I won't be able to get in contact with my family and friends. Father John told us that it was important for us to reach out and touch our loved ones.

I am glad I live in a time where people don't treat me as an outcast; I enjoy giving out hugs to ladies and high-fives to men...I can't imagine what my life would be like if I couldn't touch anyone.

In other news, it is two days before the NBA's trade deadline...and two days before I turn 26. I'm still young.

I've always wanted to write about this.

If you know me well, then you should know that I am a huge fan of professional wrestling (a.k.a. sports entertainment, which is the term Vince McMahon would love to hear). I have been a fan of pro wrestling since I was about 9-10 years old, and I guess I would consider wrestling to be my addiction. Anyway, the reason why I am writing about wrestling is because I recently read a blog from a wrestling news site I visit for backstage news. The blog addresses the issue many wrestling fans face: hearing the term "fake" used by non-professional wrestling fans to describe wrestling. As a child growing up in the mid-to-late 90's, I've heard that term used many times. Unfortunately, I don't think people understand why professional wrestling is associated with the word "fake." To be blunt, I really don't like to hear that term tossed around by people who look down on this form of entertainment because pro wrestling is seen by many as a low-brow form of entertainment, and I'll tell you why.

First, I think non-wrestling fans who make statements such as "Isn't that fake?" believe that pro wrestling fans believe that wrestling is "real." To many wrestling fans around the world, watching wrestling is no different than watching an action show on TV or an action movie. Also, many wrestling fans know that wrestling isn't "real"; however, the only thing "fake" about pro wrestling is the fact that it is a scripted and choreographed form of athletics. The wrestlers we see on TV are actually trained and athletic men and women; people who think anyone can perform in a professional wrestling ring are downright wrong. Another misconception believed by non-wrestling fans is that since wrestling is "fake", the wrestlers don't get hurt. In a perfect world, every wrestler would not get hurt while they perform. Although one of the goals in a wrestling show is for the wrestlers not to get seriously hurt, the reality is that wrestlers actually get hurt in matches. Also, the men and women in the pro wrestling business travel and perform in many shows for almost 300 days a year (at least in World Wrestling Entertainment); that lifestyle will definitely take it's wear and tear on the wrestlers bodies. I could go on and on giving more examples of how the pro wrestling business isn't as "fake" as people think it is (e.g. wrestlers using a small blade during a match to draw blood, known as blading), but I won't bore you, especially if you're looking to read this quickly.

Another issue I would like to address is the perception that non-wrestling fans believe that wrestling fans believe that wrestling is a "real" sport. That's the perception I get every time I hear someone say "Wrestling is fake." When a non-wrestling fan says a statement like that, I feel a little bit insulted, for I know that wrestling is not a "real" sport. In fact, I don't consider pro wrestling to be a real sport (some pro wrestling purists will disagree with me about this). I know the matches have predetermined outcomes. I know the matches are choreographed. I know I'm one of millions of wrestling fans around the world that knows that pro wrestling is simply a show; as a matter of fact, it is just another form of entertainment, albeit an addicting one for me. I'm also a fan of "real" sports; however, there are times when I'm bored by some athletic competitions. The reason why I watch professional wrestling is the same reason why we all watch sporting events, TV shows, Broadway musicals, and box-office movies: I simply want to suspend my disbelief, temporarily escape from the real world, and be entertained by the wrestlers I love (and love to hate...haha).

By the way, I didn't write this post because I was bored. I really wanted to speak about pro wrestling, which is something I've loved since I was a 9-year-old boy. Now that I've written about this, it's finally off my chest.

<img width='1' height='1' We visited some old friends in Berkeley for the 2008 Pilipino Graduation ceremony, and traveled to San Francisco afterward to celebrate our friend Raynard's graduation at his apartment. I talked to many people I haven't seen in a very looooooong time, but I wasn't able to see as many people as I liked. It turned out that we arrived at the PilGrad ceremony around 4:30, so the ceremony was basically over by that time. After seeing some old faces in Berkeley, we then had some delicious food at a kickback party similar to the birthday parties I usually celebrate with my family. Overall, this was a fun day, and I would like to write a detailed post, but I'll let these pics speak for themselves.

<a onblur="try type='text'>Moving On.

On Sunday, I worked my last day for the Bing Maloney Golf Complex. Some people have told me that I shouldn't have quit yet, for I haven't found a new job, but I simply didn't want to work there anymore. I got sick of cleaning golf carts and picking golf balls from the driving range for minimum wage; it simply wasn't worth it. I also wanted to focus on finishing my spring semester at Sac State on a high note, and for now, I wanted my weekends to be free again.

Luckily for me, I received my $650 of tax returns a few weeks ago, so I'll be living off of that for now; hopefully, I'll obtain a new job before that money runs out, especially with the gas prices reaching $4 a gallon.

Although I don't want to think about it, I keep wondering where I would be if I graduated from Cal. Would I be working in an architecture or a graphic design firm? Possibly. I miss all of my friends that I've met in my few years as a Cal student, but I decided to follow my dream of becoming a graphic designer. For the most part, I've put my past experience at Berkeley behind me, but I know that my experience here at Sac State hasn't been as memorable, but then again, this is only my first semester at Sac State, so it's unfair to analyze the two situations right now.

Last Thursday, I went to the Natomas Racquet Club for an interview, and I felt confident after my interview ended. The Natomas Racquet Club is a nice fitness center, and I really hope that they hire me soon, for their interview period ends tomorrow. Now that I finally have some work experience under my belt, it should be easier for me to send my resume to potential employers in order to receive interviews. I also need some motivation to work out, for I've been busy with work and school, and I just haven't had the time to get up and exercise.

Last night, I went to Borders in Elk Grove, and I purchased Shawn Michaels' autobiography. For those of you that know me, I am a huge pro wrestling fan, and Shawn Michaels is my favorite wrestler. In reading his story, Shawn was a person who had a bad reputation in the WWF/WWE locker room during the mid to late 90s, but was able to overcome many of those demons in order to become a changed, Born Again Christian man. In the current WWE storylines, Shawn Michaels was the man that ended the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair's career at WrestleMania by defeating him in an epic and memorable match that I will surely watch many times when I'll purchase the WrestleMania 24 DVD. In reality, Ric Flair made the decision to retire as an in-ring performer many months ago, and although wrestling fans around the world will miss seeing the "Nature Boy" in action, Flair will be remembered by many as the greatest professional wrestler to ever step into the squared circle.

I don't think I'll ever be as famous as Ric Flair, but I know that the Bing Maloney Golf Complex will be fine without me (many of my former co-workers didn't want to see me leave), and I know that the Pilipino Organizations at Berkeley continue to enrich and empower Pilipino students. I know that I'll eventually earn my college degree in Graphic Design, and from that point, I will move on to bigger and better things.

Time Flies.

I didn't even realize that I've had this blog for about a year and a month now. Damn.

Thanks for the birthday greetings, y'all.

Yesterday, I didn't think I would receive a lot of birthday greetings, especially from people I haven't heard from in a while. I know Facebook played a huge role, for Facebook is the resource for our friends' birthdays.

Anyway, I'm really grateful for all of the birthday greetings I received yesterday, for the folks who stopped by to celebrate my early birthday on Saturday night/early Sunday morning, and for having dinner with my family at Shari's last night.

Last year, I reached a low point in my life in which I really began to doubt myself. I've told some of my friends about my situation last year, and I was happy to know that I was able to confide in them to reveal such a shocking secret of mine.

Just receiving all of those birthday messages from the folks I love made me realize that I've got some awesome friends and a loving family. Because of your support, I've been inspired to work towards becoming a graphic designer, started producing hip-hop beats for fun, and simply living the good life in general.

Lastly, I want to thank the Lord for blessing me with my family and friends, and for showing me that there's always hope.
2007: A Year In Review

If anyone happens to stumble upon this blog, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year!

Anyway, I would just like to say that the year 2007 has been a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows for me. That was definitely a very interesting chapter of my life, and I've definitely learned a lot during these past twelve months.

To begin, I would like to define the moment that resulted in the most depressing part of my life: my decision to leave Berkeley in April due to the fact that I simply wasn't interested in architecture anymore.

A few months before I left Berkeley, I celebrated my 24th birthday with a large group of friends, and that was one of the best birthday celebrations I ever had. Unfortunately, that event and all of the great times spent with my friends didn't inspire me to finish my studies at Cal, for I was so damn close to graduating. Many people know that I want to become a graphic designer someday; that started out as a hobby for me, but through my involvement with Kapwa, PCN, and other organizations, in addition to my creative side projects, I believed that I could make a career with graphic design.

As I labored through my classes at Cal, I began to lose interest in the field of architecture.

My decision to leave Cal wasn't a spur of the moment thing. It was something I thought about months before I left in April. When I returned home for Spring Break, my mom asked me how I was doing in school, and I didn't answer her question for a few minutes, and she began to angrily wonder why I didn't answer her. At that moment, I decided to reveal something to my mom that I didn't think I would ever tell her.

I told my mom that I lost interest in architecture, and there were some moments when I thought about committing suicide.

Mom was definitely shocked to hear that from me. I told her that I felt like I disappointed her and Dad, and I thought I was a failure because I wasn't doing well in school. Through our tears, Mom told my brothers Edward and Stephen to remind me that I wasn't a failure. I couldn't believe I had the courage to tell Mom about my ordeal. Later that day, I decided that it was best for me to leave Berkeley and move back home to Sacramento.

When I moved back home, one of the first things I decided to do was look for a job. I didn't want to sit on my ass at home and do nothing; I wanted to make money, but I also looked for a job in order to show my parents that I wasn't someone who simply mooched off of their hard work. I constantly looked for job openings on Craigslist until I received two interviews. The first interview took place at a small school, and it was for a morning day care position. I thought my interview went well; I also received a tour of the school, but I failed to follow up with them, and I never heard from them again. My second interview took place at a golf course, and it was for a position to work at their driving range. That time, I was actually hired after the interview, then I received another follow up interview, and I received my first real pay position.

On May 23, I started working at Bing Maloney Golf Complex, which is located about four minutes away from my house, and I primarily work with their golf carts (although I was hired to work at their driving range). Due to my work at "The Bing", as management likes to call this place, I took an interest in playing golf. For most of the summer, I worked full-time at Bing Maloney and played golf there. I still work at Bing Maloney, but only on the weekends because of school, and I still play golf (even if it's the most difficult sport I've ever played).

Over the summer, I decided that I would return to school in the Fall to take classes for Sac State's graphic design program, so I enrolled in a few classes at Cosumnes River College (a.k.a. CRC). My favorite class was my Beginning Photography class, for I enjoyed taking pictures with an old Canon SLR film camera, and developing pictures was an interesting process.

Hopefully, I would like to start taking classes at Sac State, but I only applied about a month ago, so I'll have to follow up with admissions to see if I can enroll in classes. Otherwise, I might have to take a few more prereqs at CRC again.

There's so much more about this year that I would like to write about, but I don't want to bore anyone who reads this (if I have any readers...haha), but I'm looking forward to what 2008 will bring for me. In regards to how I'm doing, I'm definitely feeling much better than I did in April. I'll return to school in a few weeks, and I've already been thinking about looking for a new job, so I'll have to enjoy what's left of my winter break.

It's time to close the chapter of 2007; 2008, here I come!

In less than two months (February 19), I'll be 25 years old. That's freakin' crazy.

What the hell is wrong with me?

Seriously. Today, I had people sign up to use golf carts, cleaned the golf carts, and drove those carts to a storage barn (that was the fun part). Plus, I received a cool collared t-shirt designed by Nike Golf.

Do I like the job? By disposing of the Mavericks in the first round, and playing an exciting series with the Jazz in the second round, the Warriors became the darlings of the NBA Playoffs. Baron Davis re-established himself as one of the elite point guards in the game, Jason Richardson and Stephen Jackson had some amazing games, and Matt Barnes (a.k.a. "Sac Town's Finest") will be entertaining offers from many teams in the offseason.

Congratulations to the Utah Jazz, especially to Derek Fisher, for he's gone through a lot of adversity with the health of his baby daughter. He's definitely the heart and soul of the Jazz.

I want the Suns to beat the Spurs, but if the Spurs make it to the Western Conference Finals, then I'll be rooting for the Jazz to return to the NBA Finals.

Now I can wait to see what the Kings will do this offseason.

Thank you, Warriors, for one hell of a playoff run.

Random Thoughts #2.

Big ups to my friends who are graduating soon! The best part of the show was a long dance number called "Chip-Chop", a fusion of hip-hop dance and the Cha-Cha. My youngest brother Stephen was a part of the show, and he did well every time I saw him.

I mentioned this before, but I miss my friends in the Bay Area and SoCal.

Christina, I really appreciated the long talk we had a few days ago. Their commercials feature a gorgeous woman named Rachel Specter. She looks like a prettier version of Eva Green, the "Bond Girl" from the movie Casino Royale. I haven't been captivated by an actress in a commercial since Kristin Kreuk in her Neutrogena commercials.

Here are the RGX commercials:

Also, I'm working on posting a tribute video for Christine, the woman behind the Happy Slip videos.

Here's a preview of the tribute:

Christine simply makes me laugh and "peel" good about myself. Even when her 15 minutes of fame ends, I'll continue to be a fan of hers.

Will I buy RGX Body Spray? Maybe, but I'll stick with Axe for now. Well, my Xanga blog is used to update my friends on my life (or post some random thing that I found interesting). I've also started to write a few spoken word and rap pieces. From this point forward, if I write a new spoken word or rap piece, I'll post it here. So why did I choose Blogger to create new blogs?

First of all, I like Blogger's design. There are some subtle things about Blogger's design that I prefer over Xanga. Plus, I don't have to upgrade to a Premium account if I want to give my blog a facelift (i.e. performing some HTML modifications). Second, I guess I just wanted another outlet for me to express my thoughts, ideas, rants, raves, and creative juice. I'm a sucker for online communities, which means I have accounts for Friendster (which started the whole online community revolution, IMO, but I don't check this anymore), MySpace (which is the #1 online community now; I joined MySpace before it blew up into a global phenomenon), Facebook (which along with MySpace, I check every day), Xanga, YouTube (aka "YouChoob"), imeem, and Blogger. Click on any of the links on the right to check out my presence within the World Wide Web.

So, does this mean that I'll stop posting blogs on Xanga? Not now, for many of my friends update their lives on Xanga, but I will make that transition sometime soon. I won't delete my Xanga account, but I'll probably start posting blogs here more often in the near future. I've posted a few "Notes" on Facebook, but those can't be seen publicly, for you need a Facebook account to view them. I also posted a few entries on MySpace, but I chose Xanga as my online journal. Besides, their "kudos" are a blatant ripoff of Xanga's "eProps". Soon, I'll make the switch from Xanga to Blogger as my online journal.

Will I constantly change the design of my new blogs? Probably, since I'm never fully satisfied with my designs. The creative juices continue to flow within me.

To my Xanga homies, if you still want to receive updates from me, you can subscribe to this blog through an Atom feed. The link should be below my blog entries. I'll continue to read your entries, and I'll give some eProps and shout outs from time to time.

Is this the beginning of a new chapter in my 24-year-old life?
